Bone Biologics Stock Surges 100% on NELL-1 Protein Patent Filing
Bone Biologics (BBLG) shares doubled in pre-market trading after the medical device company filed a patent application for its NELL-1 protein technology. The patent covers recombinant human NELL-1 polypeptide compositions and their therapeutic applications for bone disorders.
CEO Jeffrey Frelick called the filing "a major milestone" in developing spine fusion treatments. The company is collaborating with partners to advance preclinical work on NELL-1, which aims to serve as a bone graft alternative for spinal procedures.
Friday's rally marks a stark reversal for BBLG, which had declined 26% year-to-date prior to the announcement. Trading volume exploded to 15 million shares—240 times the three-month average—as investors reacted to the IP development.
